One week to go!!!

Well I'm officially singed up for my 1st 5k. It's next Sat. at 8:00am. I have to say I'm pretty excited. Not only can I run 3 miles now(even though this morning I thought it would kill me) but I have seen a significant drop in my heart rate after I run!!! Seeing results is what its all about. When I started this adventure, it was all about weight loss but seeing the drop in my heart rate was enough to keep me happy. Hopefully the weight loss will follow but for now feeling good and being healthy, is well worth it!!!

finally a goal

Well its time to commit. I've decided to run a 5k on Aug. 20. I'm pretty excited. I've started this week with my 2 mile goal and intend to increase it 1/2 mile every week until the race. Not a huge distance I know but a great start. I have also increased my speed a bit. I figure I should get used to the speed now so that I'm not the last person crossing the finish line. The run last night was not easy but it seems to be helping my back and I do sleep a lot better after. I hope to get a short run in this weekend even though we will be at East Canyon, but we'll see. For now though I'm glad to be back!

Monday

Sore back and all I decided I needed to get out and run. Well I did it! 1.75 mile at a pace of 5 miles per hour. I'm still not breaking any records but at least I'm out running. Tomorrow and Thursday we are going out again. Hopefully I will hit the 2 mile mark. Correction... I will hit that 2 mile mark!!!

Only 0.6 Miles?

How long can a mile possibly be? Last Fall several of us in the neighborhood started running. I was doing pretty good and even got to the point were I was able to run up to 4 miles. Well 6 months later (due to lack of exercise) that first mile sure seems long!!! I knew we had gone far but when we checked our distance we had only been 0.6 miles. Boy was it frustrating to see Shaunna running off ahead of me...(She didn't take the 6 month vacation from running that I did) but instead of getting down on myself, it helped me put things in perspective. I can't run for a month or two and than take a vacation. I need to stick to it!!! I've now got two days of running under my belt and I really want to stick to it. I was hoping to run a 5k in the Spring but I didn't get it done so now I will do it this Fall. I know I can do it and I will do it!!!

Goal #1

They say the human body is 90% water but mine is at least 70% Diet Mt. Dew. This is my guiltily pleasure, well at least on of them and not the one I am willing to give up this week. I decided I would give up sweets this week. Each week I hope to make one lifestyle change for the week and see if I am able to make some healthy changes without overwhelming myself. Today I went to the gas station and was able to resist the pack of zingers that was calling my name. I know it doesn't seem like much, but I am a very weak person!!! Well I did it one day without a treat! Yeah Me!!!

Well I weighed myself yesterday and here it is... 163.9.
Today it as 166.7. I know thats a huge gain for one day, but at least its a starting point.

Why???

Some people my wonder when I have such a wonderful family, why would I chose to create a blog about myself? Lately I have found that I am very discouraged with my self and my weight gain of over 30 lbs. I have always been naturally thin with no diet or exercise, but after the age of 35, things started to change. I can't eat what I want and I find myself tired all the time. I am really good at starting diets, I do it weekly, however I never stick to anything. Well now its time to change. I want to start changing some of my bad habits into good ones. I hope that this blog can help me stay on track. I will try to post my accomplishments as well as my discouragements. I will even post my weight weekly!!! (No one, but me, has seen my weight for at least two years.) Well, here goes nothin'! Wish me luck!
